Abstract
The article investigates the problems of submission of financial resources to the Rus-sian government and the spread of the Russian tax system on Ukrainian territory through contemporary interpretations of that era, particularly in the chronicles of Samovydets, Grygory Hrabianka and Samiylo Velychko; in the works of P. Symo-novsky, A. Rihelman, in “History of Rus” and in the first synthetic, scientific work on the history of Ukraine by D. Bantysh-Kamensky. Their creative heritage belongs to the second and third periods of Ukrainian historical thought, the period when the echo of the Western historical and philosophical movement — Romanticism — was particularly noticeable and which had its own Cossack roots in Ukraine.
